Disney's Animal Kingdom: The Maharajah Jungle Trek Aviary

By: Barbie

The Maharajah Jungle Trek at Disney's Animal Kingdom is always full of surprises. It is a self guided walking trek in which you will meet Southeast Asia's tigers, bats, birds and more. Each time you walk through, animal guides stand at observation points to answer questions and point out details. They are extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

The aviary is always buzzing with activity, and this time we were able to catch a bonded pair of Zebra Finches stealing nesting materials from a large Nicobar Pigeon's nest. She was obliviously sitting there. Not a care in the world.

The little male finch, in browns and blacks, stood guard while his albino wife pillaged the nest for materials for her own nest across the aviary. What a couple!

Remind me not to invite them over to OUR house for dinner!

  1. Hi Nick, nice photo storytelling, I like nice little photo series like these. I enjoy the aviaries on both of DAK's trails and I've been going through my Flickr Photos labeling my birds, are you good ad identifying birds? I've got one spices (two photos) I'm having a little trouble with, would you take a look? from Disney's Animal Kingdom's Asia Aviary http://flic.kr/p/7pUAv1 http://flic.kr/p/7pQF3K

  2. I'll run it by Barbie, brian, she is much better at identifying just about everything than I am.
