Disney Movie Rewards

by Gaylin

I joined Disney Movie Rewards (DMR) a few years ago. I have a few Disney movies (don't we all) and figured I would sign up to see what it was all about. There is a code inside every DVD/Blu-ray box, after you join the rewards program, you enter the codes into the right spot and the points add up.

If you don't buy a lot of movies, pay attention, DMR does run contests to get more points without buying a movie. I 'liked' DMR on Facebook and get notifications when they are running a contest, usually you copy and paste a code from DMR on Pinterest or answer questions in a quiz and you add 5 to 15 points a day to your total.

I usually use my points (5 per entry) to enter sweepstakes to win trips to Walt Disney World, really - what could be better than a trip to WDW, a FREE trip of course!!!

This spring I was looking through the rewards and found one I wanted, it 'cost' 600 points. I had exactly that, 600 points. I immediately claimed my reward, 600 points equals about $6.00. Also I was surprised that there was no shipping fee. Here it is, my amazing reward!

Yes, I got a Funko Pop bobble head of Loki! Just what any grown woman needs. The day after I ordered this, I looked on the DMR page again and it was gone. I guess I wasn't the only person who wanted this great toy if it sold out that fast.

As you can see from the back of the box, there is a whole series of these toys. I had to laugh when I first looked at the picture of bobble Thor, I thought he had a soother in his mouth . . . nope, that is his goatee!

Bobble Loki is a grand 3 3/4 inches tall and whatever kind of spring is in his head, once he starts to bobble, he takes a long time to stop. Sure, Loki is a bad guy but really this bobble is seriously cute.

His hair looks like a helmet from the back and the odd proportion of head to body is even more noticeable from behind.

It is always fun to get real mail, even more fun when it is a toy that didn't cost anything. Have you ever cashed in your reward points? What did you get?

We Make an Appearance at The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

By: Nick

Back in November of 2011 while at Walt Disney World, I got a Facebook PM from a friend with a YouTube Video attached. We had never met personally, but he had seen plenty of pictures of me on Facebook. Imagine my surprise when he asked "Is this you at The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights?"

I had indeed JUST been at Hollywood Studios seeing this wonderful holiday show a couple of nights previously with Barbie and our friends, Josh and Jill.

I clicked on the link, and sure enough, there we all were on someone's YouTube video!

I walk into the picture at about the 1:34 mark, and start jumping up and down like a child on Christmas morning. Then I look over at Josh and Jill to my right, and my wife enters and comes around to my left.

That's me in the center above.

Anyway, enjoy the VIDEO!

Post Disney Depression and You

By: Nick

The author waving goodbye to his resort,
on this particular stay, Coronado Springs.
Note the pained expression.

You know the feeling well. You just got home from a Disney vacation, and you're sad. Very Sad.
How do you deal with this?
I deal with it in several ways.

Book and plan another trip:
Before I even end a Disney vacation, I need to know I have another booked and sometimes, start planning where I'll eat and things to do while there.
I know this is not feasible for everyone, time wise and economically, so let's look at some things anyone and everyone can do.

Do a trip report:
Often before we even leave our vacations, I sort through my photos, and start to write a trip report.
I do this for family, friends, this blog, and the others I contribute to.
It's a great way to revisit the fun (and food!) we have experienced, and sparks conversations with friends and family that can last long after the trip has ended.

Read (or even write) Disney Blogs:
In addition to writing this blog and contributing to others, I also regularly read several. Don't just go to the few "major ones". Smaller blogs add a personalized touch and can fit your style best.

Participate in Social Media groups and forums:
Maybe a blog is too much of a commitment? Well, why not share you experiences in Social Networking groups, such as Disney Dreamers, Disney Day Dreamers , Walt Disney Maniacs, Mousejunkies, Walt's Basement, Disney World Fans & Addicts, and Disneyland Fans & Addicts, to name just a few.
There are also many forums to participate in, such as DVC News.

Listen to Disney Podcasts:
What's a Disney Podcast? It's like a radio show made by Disney fans like us. There are many, to varying degrees of professionalism, topics, and original content. They can be found by doing a search in the iTunes Store. I've listened to dozens, and have a few favorites, such as Be Our Guest, WDW News Today, and WDW Today. (Yes those last 2 are actually very different, despite the very similar names).

Listen to Disney Parks music:
I love park music. I listen to background loops (the music you hear throughout the parks, always there, like a movie soundtrack.) all the time, especially when writing.
You can buy many CD's at the parks.
There are also several online resources to be found, simply do a Google search for Disney music and you'll find several different links. Sorcerer Radio does live streaming and even has an app.
My favorites are D-Cot, MouseWorld Radio, and Magical Mouse Radio.

Read Disney Magazines and books:
I joined D23, the official Disney Fan Club, primarily for the truly amazing D23 Magazine. Every issue is like a book.
There are also a few other great magazines that can be found by doing a Google search for Disney magazines. As for Disney books, simply type in Disney at Amazon, and you'll find a book on just about any topic you can imagine. Also, our friends at Theme Park Press just launched their site.

I hope these ideas help you deal with your PDD.

Disney Vacation Too Excited To Sleep Syndrome

By: Nick Maglio

If you are anything like me, about a week, sometimes 2 weeks, before a Disney Vacation, you start having restless nights. Then, the night before your magical journey is about to begin, you are wide awake, tossing and turning, watching the clock.

I call this TETSS. Too Excited To Sleep Syndrome, and it's a serious problem.

Over the years, I've developed a routine to combat this problem, and it works, to lesser or greater degree, each trip I:
  • Take 1 Tylenol PM (2 would make me too groggy the next morning)
  • Drink 1 cup of Chamomile tea (don't drink too many fluids, or THAT can be an issue!)
  • Have a light meal, trying to avoid anything too salty or heavy, or caffeinated
  • Try not to go to bed until 8 hours before I intend to get up, knowing I'll likely only get 6, 7 if I'm lucky. I used to try to go to bed ridiculously early the night before, and would wind up waking up 4 hours later, unable to get back to sleep.
This isn't an exact science, but try some of these suggestions out before your next trip, and perhaps you too can overcome the dreaded TETSS!
