Disney Dollars Featuring Mickey Mouse

By Nick

87 years ago today, “Steamboat Willie” was released, making a star out of Mickey Mouse.
7 years ago, Disney released these Disney Dollars to celebrate Mickey’s 80th Anniversary.

The one dollar bill features the “pie-eyed” Mickey of the early 1930′s.

1928-2008, Mickey Mouse, Eightieth Anniversary.

The back of each bill features a nice illustration of Mickey’s evolution through his 80 years.

The five features Mickey as the Mickey Mouse Club Bandleader, from the mid 1950′s.

The ten features the modern, computer generated Mickey Mouse.

Happy 87th to the Big Cheese!

Disneyland's 50th Anniversary Disney Dollars

By Nick

In 2005, Disneyland celebrated its 50th Anniversary, and there were commemorative Disney Dollars released in conjunction with this momentous occasion.

Let’s start with the 5 dollar denomination, featuring Donald Duck.

Along with Donald on the front is the “Happiest Celebration on Earth” castle logo.

The back has Tinker Bell bracketing a 1955-2005 banner, which itself brackets a beautiful illustration of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Disneyland Resort: The Happiest Place on Earth. Another $5 released, which I sadly don’t have, is one featuring Goofy.

Next up we have the $10, with Minnie Mouse.

Same back as the $5.

There is also a $10 with Stitch, which I, unforgivably, don’t have.

Wait. Where’s the One Dollar Disney Dollar, presumably with Mickey Mouse? Well, believe it or not, Mickey was not on the $1 Bill. Mickey was on a $50! No, I don’t have one!

Disney Princess Disney Dollars

By Nick

In 2005, Disneyland celebrated its 50th Anniversary, and there were commemorative Disney Dollars released in conjunction with this momentous occasion. The $1 bill, surprisingly, did not feature Mickey Mouse. Mickey graced the $50!
The One Dollar Disney Dollar honors went to 2 classic characters. One was Dumbo.
The other was Cinderella.

The Happiest Celebration on Earth.

The back features Sleeping Beauty Castle. Which leads me to wonder why Sleeping Beauty wasn’t the featured Princess.

Speaking of Princesses let’s look at some more Disney Dollars featuring…Princesses.

In 2007, Disney Dollars celebrated 20 years with a $1, $5, and $10 Princess dollars.
The $1 features Ariel, the Little Mermaid.

1987-2007: Twenty Years of Disney Dollars.

The $5 features Aurora, the Sleeping Beauty. There she is!

The backs of all of these Disney Dollars feature a lovely illustration Cinderella Castle with Tinker Bell flying overhead.

Disney Parks: Where dreams come true!

Cinderella makes a return appearance on the $10.

I hope you’ve enjoyed our all Princess addition of Disney Dollars!

Disney Dollars

By Nick

Disney Dollars were introduced in 1987 at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
For an in depth history of Disney Dollars, please check out disneydollars.net.

I bought my first Disney Dollars at the Disney Store in 1992, for use on my first trip to Walt Disney World that year. I saved a few, and have picked up more through the years.
Let’s start with the earliest dollars, 1s and 5s.

A waving Mickey greets us.
“May be used as legal tender only at Disneyland Park, Walt Disney World Resorts and the Disney Stores.” “Disney Dollars may be spent or collected and saved as souvenirs and are redeemable at any time before or after any time of inactivity.”
Series 1991.
Treasurer, Scrooge McDuck. Of course!
A Series
 .
A lovely illustration of Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle on the back.

Goofy looks proud to be honored with the 5 Dollar bill.
For my second trip to Walt Disney World in 1994, I picked up a few more Disney Dollars, including this fiver.
Same disclaimer as to where the dollars could be used, but with a notation that they could only be used in the U.S.A. and Puerto Rico.
The highlight of this is the absolutely beautiful illustration on the back.
1993 was Mickeys 65th birthday, and this momentous occasion called for a special dollar, and Mickey is decked out in a tuxedo to celebrate.

1993 was also the year that Mickey’s Toontown opened in Disneyland, which is commemorated on the back.

Disney Dollars even came with their own fun envelopes. “Currency With Character”. Cute!

In the future, I’ll share some Disney Dollars from the recent past.
