Walt Disney Classics Collection Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Brave Little Tailor

These Mickey and Minnie, Brave Little Tailor Walt Disney Classics Collection pieces are among my favorite collectibles.

Mickey stands 7 1/4 inches tall. Plussing includes a matte platinum finish on his scissors.

 

Titled "I let him have it", it is the 1993 Animators Choice Figurine, and the first year redemption sculpture for the Walt Disney Classic Collection. It bears the Treble Clef production mark, symbolizing the music in the Academy Award-winning 'Silly Symphonies'.

Minnie stands 6 1/2 inches tall. Her veil is painted with opalescent paint, and her shoe buckles are painted gold.

 

Titled "Princess Minnie", this piece was the 1996 Animator's Choice sculpt.

She has the Sailor's Hat production mark, which represents Donald Duck's on-screen debut in 1934 animated short, 'The Wise Little Hen'.

 

 

They perfectly capture 2 beloved characters in a beloved scene from a (Is he going to say it again? Yes!) beloved animated short. 

Brave Little Tailor Sweet Dream

A few months ago I shared a couple of "Capsule Toys", also known as Gashapon or Gacha.
Today, I'd like to share a few items from the "Sweet Dreams Gallery." These little pieces of animation art are small, just 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches, and come in a little plastic bag with their display easel.

First off, the Brave Little Tailor.
This features Minnie prompting Tailor Mickey to go after the giant. The year of the release is above the title, 1938. And check out the ornate frame with Mickey presenting the piece!

Next, we have Mickey's best pal, Pluto, with Dinah the Dachshund, in Pluto's Heart Throb. The year printed on the title scroll is 1931. This isn't even close! Pluto's Heart Throb, was released in 1950!

Finally, Tinker Bell from Peter Pan, from 1953.

I payed $5.84 for each of these on eBay, which included shipping. While the capsules weren't included, this sheet was. It shows the rest of the series, 12 in all, including one mystery piece.

I'm hooked on these capsule toys, and have some more to share in the future. Like Vinylmation, they are tiny collectibles that don't take up a lot of space, but have a lot of personality.

Mickey Mouse Brave Little Tailor Animation Drawing

Back in the mid 90's I worked for an animation gallery in Philadelphia part time. I would trade my time, and artistic abilities, painting backgrounds for animation collectors to display their cels over, for credit towards animation sketches, production drawings, and production cels.The cels are from the non-Disney animated film, "Watership Down," one of my favorite movies of all time. Due to the exorbitant prices that Disney animation art demanded in the 1990's, I only have a few Disney production drawings, and this one sketch of Mickey Mouse:

Each piece I have has a story, and this one is very interesting. Apparently it came from a collection given to a grandson by his grandmother who worked at the Disney Studios as a cleaning person.
She would pick out discarded drawings from the trash, bring them home, cut them out, and paste them in a book.
I was drawn to this because, while I have no way of knowing absolutely, it sure looks like a Brave Little Tailor Mickey, to me.

He appears to be sporting a tunic and those floppy moccasins he wears in my favorite Mickey animated short. Regardless, it's a Mickey from my favorite era of Disney animation, and I'm thrilled to own it.

Disney Tomy Yujin Mickey Mouse and Friends Figure Set

I bought this Disney Tomy Yujin Mickey Mouse and Friends Relaxing, Forever Friends Figure Set of 6 Gashapon figures off of eBay for $12.95.

They probably came in capsules, individually in these little bags.

They're adorable separately, but are meant to be together.
Winnie the Pooh and Piglet.

 Bambi and Flower.

Last but not least, Mickey Mouse as the Brave Little Tailor and Princess Minnie Mouse.

Mickey Mouse Brave Little Tailor Record and Book (From 4/9/13)

I've been eyeing this Mickey Mouse, Brave Little Tailor record and story book from 1968 up for a while on eBay, and found it a few months ago on a very successful trip to the Columbus Flea Market.

I felt the $5 asking price was fair, as that is comparable to what I've seen it go for in eBay, minus the extra added expense of shipping charges.

But enough of all that, let's take a look at the book.

For those unfamiliar with the story, I will relate a very truncated version.

A kingdom is being pestered by a giant, and the king offers a reward for his capture.

Mickey, a tailor, is being pestered himself, by several flies.

With 2 fly swatters, Mickey dispatches the 7 pests with one blow, which he proudly announces to the people outside his window. The citizens misunderstand, assuming Mickey is talking about taking down 7 giants with one blow!

News gets back to the King, and Mickey is summoned. He discovers that the king expects him to capture just one giant, no problem for someone so brave. He offers the hand of Princess Minnie in return.

Mickey finds the giant, and through ingenuity and tailoring, ties things up nicely.

To celebrate, the King decides to hold a big carnival, and the giant provides the wind power to turn the carousel!
 

A happy ending for all. But I always wondered what the final fate of the giant was.

Someone got creative with the coloring on the last page here. The record itself is in perfect condition.

Disney Animation Collection: Vol. 1: Mickey and the Beanstalk

Sunday, while doing a search for Disney on Netflix streaming service, I discovered they have Disney Animation Collections Vol. 1-5 available! I actually have many of the cartoons available in these volumes on DVD, but the quality of the picture in HD is superb!

I watched Disney Animation Collection: Vol. 1: Mickey and the Beanstalk.

 
It starts off with Mickey and the Beanstalk, which was originally released  September 27, 1947 as part of the "package film" Fun and Fancy Free.  It was originally narrated by Edgar Bergen. The version in this collection is from Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color, aired in 1963, and is narrated by Ludwig Von Drake. 

This is a retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk, with Mickey, Donald and Goofy going on an adventure.
The highlight of this, in my opinion, and what I remember being most amused of as a child, is the beanstalk growing scene. It's full of hilarious and imaginative gags with perfectly orchestrated music accompanying it.

Next up is my favorite Mickey Mouse cartoon, the 1938 masterpiece, The Brave Little Tailor. I've written about several of my collectables from this classic, and have many more to come. Past articles can be found by typing in "Brave Little Tailor" in the "Search This Blog" block to the right. I don't think I've ever seen it as beautifully as it is here in HD. Just stunning. I watched it twice in fact!

Then I was treated to an almost as wonderful, certainly in my top 5 Mickey Mouse cartoons, Thru the Mirror, from 1936. Mickey falls asleep while reading Alice In Wonderland, and has quite the dream!
Also included a black and white Mickey from 1934 Gulliver Mickey. Mickey tells a group of young orphan mice a fanciful tale.

Rounding out the set is Mr. Mouse Takes a Trip, from 1940, where Mickey and Pluto try to avoid train conductor Pete, and have many problems doing so! I'll be checking out the rest of these animated classics for sure!

Brave Little Tailor Mickey Vinylmation in the Magic Kingdom

Brave Little Tailor Tuesday!

I won this Mickey Mouse Brave Little Tailor Vinylmation on eBay. He tagged along on our trip to Walt Disney World in January.

 

Not surprisingly, his favorite park is the Magic Kingdom. Wonder what he keeps in the little pouch at his side? Probably FastPasses.

He was the topper to the Park Series 9 combo pack.

Because he's a tailor, he of course has his scissors. His hat does not come off, and has a read feather painted on.

And then, Mickey was off. He had a FastPass for Peter Pan's Flight.

Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Premiere Weekend 2013

I've been collecting Hallmark ornaments for as long as I've been collecting Disney. So, for over 20 years, Hallmark's annual release of new ornaments had been like Christmas.
This weekend was Premier Weekend, and for me, Christmas in July!

There are plenty of ornaments to appeal to just about every Disney fan and taste.

 The highlight for me this year, my favorite Mickey Mouse of all, The Brave Little Tailor, has his own ornament!

I also picked up this Mickey's Christmas Carol ornament.

There is a also a "Limited Quantity" ornament featuring Gus and Jaq, titled "Sewing For Cinderelly", so if you're interested, head to your nearest Hallmark as soon as possible!

Last but not least, this Cinderella Castle ornament that plays "When You Wish Upon a Star" with fireworks bursting above. While not Limited Quantity, I can't imagine this will stay on shelves long!

We'll be taking a closer look at all the ornaments we bought in December.

Mickey Mouse Brave Little Tailor Clock

Brave Little Tailor Tuesday!

On the last couple Tuesdays I discussed 2 items I bought way back in 1996 from the Official Disneyana Convention, a mug and a hat. Today I'd like to share a resin clock I purchased on eBay, also from the convention.

Mickey as the Brave Little Tailor measures 5 1/4 inches high from the bottom of the base to the tip of his feather.

The clock battery has expired, and needs to be replaced.

Like the mug, this clock is limited to 2000 pieces.

I also have an ornament from the convention, which I originally purchased in 1996, which I will share in a future post.
