Mickey Mouse Brave Little Tailor Record and Book

I've been eyeing this Mickey Mouse, Brave Little Tailor record and story book from 1968 up for a while on eBay, and found it a few months ago on a very successful trip to the Columbus Flea Market.

I felt the $5 asking price was fair, as that is comparable to what I've seen it go for in eBay, minus the extra added expense of shipping charges.

But enough of all that, let's take a look at the book.

For those unfamiliar with the story, I will relate a very truncated version.

A kingdom is being pestered by a giant, and the king offers a reward for his capture.

Mickey, a tailor, is being pestered himself, by several flies.

With 2 fly swatters, Mickey dispatches the 7 pests with one blow, which he proudly announces to the people outside his window. The citizens misunderstand, assuming Mickey is talking about taking down 7 giants with one blow!

News gets back to the King, and Mickey is summoned. He discovers that the king expects him to capture just one giant, no problem for someone so brave. He offers the hand of Princess Minnie in return.

Mickey finds the giant, and through ingenuity and tailoring, ties things up nicely.

To celebrate, the King decides to hold a big carnival, and the giant provides the wind power to turn the carousel!
 

A happy ending for all. But I always wondered what the final fate of the giant was.

Someone got creative with the coloring on the last page here. The record itself is in perfect condition.

Disney California Adventure Red Car Trolley Tin Sign

This Red Car Trolley tin sign hangs in our kitchen.

We picked it up during a Red Car Trolley buying spree, for $34.95.

I love the graphics on the box.

Packaged very well for protection. When we saw them out, we wondered how we would get it through the trip home unscathed. Then we noticed they came boxed as well. Nice!

On the inside cover of the box is a little bit of history on the Red Car Trolley.

The sign is a reminder of a terrific trip, and a beloved new attraction at Disney California Adventure.

I got this last weekend, but you may find one at your local Disney Store.

Flea Market Finds: Vintage Epcot Center Postcard

A few months ago, while my wife and I were in Walt Disney World, we did a Segway tour early one morning at Epcot. As we were staying at the Boardwalk Villas, we entered through the International Gateway, between France and the United Kingdom Pavilions in World Showcase. That part of the park was virtually empty, except for an occasional Cast Member.

So, as we had a little time, we stopped and took lots of pictures of the United Kingdom and Canada Pavilion.

So it was pretty neat when I found this postcard at the flea market recently. And even better that it was only $1, as it appears that these are hard to come by at such a reasonable price.
 

Sent in 1991, when Epcot was still EPCOT CENTER.

 

The message itself really has nothing to do with the park.

But the card caption makes me long to be back, enjoying the British fare, specifically the fish and chips, as well as a "pint of ale at the pub".

The gardens are some of the loveliest in all the World here.

Disney Storytime: App Review

Disney Publishing has just released a new App for iPhone and iPad called Disney Storytime.

To begin you can either choose a favorite Disney character as an avatar, or create your own, which is what I chose to do. You can even chose to use a photo if you wish.

In my humble opinion, $1.99 is a reasonable price for 3 nicely illustrated stories for young children, and, obviously, if you choose to purchase more, $8.99 for 17 stories is a terrific bargain.

Disney California Adventure, Carthay Circle Restaurant

The Carthay Circle Theater (Theatre) was a Los Angeles landmark from 1926 until 1969, where many movies made their theatrical debut, including Walt Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" in 1937.
Now it's been replicated in Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort as a fine dining establishment. My wife Barbie, her cousin Jill, and Jill's husband Zach, and I had dinner here on our trip in February.

There are several pieces of memorabilia from the premier of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" as you enter.

There are photos of Walt Disney with his family and other luminaries throughout the entire restaurant.

There is also a display of original Snow White animation art that hung in Walt Disney's home!

The restaurant is upstairs, and is lovely.

There are illustrations on the ceiling that make you feel as if you were in the forest with Snow White.

There are also private rooms, and we were very pleasantly surprised when we were escorted to the "Hyperion Room"!

 

And the food? Excellent!

We started with  Carthay Signature Fried Biscuits - Stuffed with White Cheddar, Bacon, and Jalapeno, Served with Apricot Honey Butter,  $11 and Ginger Pork Satay - Green Papaya Slaw and Mango Raita. $16.

The biscuits were very good...

...but the Ginger Pork was outstanding!

For entrees my wife and I both ordered the Short Rib Raviolis Sauteed in Sage Brown Butter - Winter Squash, Portobello Mushrooms and Sprouts, $27. Very nice, and while the portion looked small when first served, they filled me up!

Jill had the Skuna Bay Salmon with Hot Almond Dried Cranberry Couscous and Lemon thyme vinaigrette, $30. She really enjoyed this.

Zach had the Santa Maria Braised Pork Pot Roast with Sour Cream Smashed Potatoes, and Dried Cherry Zinfandel Sauce, $31.
He said the pork roast was even better than the ginger pork satay, which means I will have to get this if it's still offered on our next trip.

We were all pretty full, but we managed to split a dessert, which, even though I can't recall the name or cost, was delicious.

As I've already said, this was an excellent dinner, and we are already looking forward to our next trip so we can enjoy another fantastic meal here.
