Meeting Red, Lightning McQueen, and Mater at the Cozy Cone

In Cars Land at Disney California Adventure you can meet Red the Fire Engine...

 ...Lightning McQueen...

... and Tow Mater!

Lightning and Mater can be seen at the Cozy Cone, an awesome backdrop.

And, as an added bonus, Mater and Lightning talk!
Here is a look at a meet up with Mater.

Take Flight with Autonaut Mater

I bought this terrific die cast Tow Mater in Disneyland for $11.95.

He's Autonaut Mater, as he appeared in the Car Toons: Mater's Tall Tales short cartoon "Moon Mater." As you can see, Mater has his seriously determined look on!

The back of the package shows other vehicles from the "Take Flight" line of Cars toys.

Mater can't help anyone in his blister pack, so I got him out of there!

A closer look at his side let's us know he is part of the Imapala XIII Rescue Mission for NASCA, also known as Operation Moon Mater!

That sounds pretty impressive! No wonder he has his that serious look on his face!

And how will he rescue Imapala XIII? With his tow gear of course!

Disney/Pixar, made in Thailand. From Mattel.

You can watch "Moon Mater" as well as other Car Toons for free at Disney.com!

Flea Market Finds: Air Mater Hallmark Ornament

By: Nick

I picked this ornament up at the Columbus Flea Market for $5

Air Mater is a "Car Toons: Mater's Tall Tales" short released in 2011, and can be found on the "Cars 2" DVD or Blu Ray, the Pixar Short Films Collection 2 DVD or Blu Ray, and iTunes, which is where I purchased it.
Back to the ornament!
And here is the back of the box.
"Mayday! Mater bites off more than he can chew when he takes off with a crew of stunt planes in the animated short Air Mater. He wants to be part of the aerial action, but this is a little too much excitement! But never fear-Lightning McQueen is just a loop-the-loop away and wouldn't dream of letting Mater down."

Great detail in this ornament.

The propeller turns!

This short introduces Propwash Junction, a town inhabited by planes,  featured in the animated movie... Planes.

Video: Mater's Junkyard Jamboree

The first attraction we rode in Cars Land was Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, and it was one of our favorites. We loved the music so much, it prompted us to buy the Music of Cars Land CD.

Check out yesterday's post for the story behind my Mater Teeth.

Tow Mater Teeth

True story.

I've watched the "Car Toons" animated shorts featuring Mater and his tall tales several times. In fact, at the airport the morning we were leaving for Disneyland last month, my wife and I watched a few.
One of them was "Mater the Greater" featuring Mater as a daredevil. In the short, recurring characters Mia and Tia are sporting fake Mater buck teeth, sold by Buck, the Tooth Vendor.
Upon getting to the Disneyland Resort, after checking into our resort, the first thing we did was head over to the new Cars Land at Disney California Adventure.
We had lunch at Flo's V8 Cafe, and while walking out, my wife saw a little boy wearing fake Mater teeth! I missed this, but she said we needed to find them. And find them we did, at Sarge's Surplus Hut.

I ponied up the money, opened the pack, and headed over to Mater's Junkyard Jamboree.

Lots of people took pictures of me in these, so if you are an introvert, this is not the way to go unnoticed.

I had a blast on the ride, our first ride of this visit, and these teeth are a fun reminder of the great kick off to a fantastic trip.

Cars 2 Storybook Deluxe Review

Disney is currently having a sale that runs through tomorrow, May 21st, on several of its Storybook apps for $4.99.
These include:
Wreck-It-Ralph Storybook Deluxe
Finding Nemo Storybook Deluxe
Brave Storybook Deluxe
Monsters, Inc Storybook Deluxe
Tangled: Storybook Deluxe
Cinderella: Storybook Deluxe

Also on sale for $4.99 is the Cars 2 Storybook Deluxe App.

I checked this out, and, as with all the Disney Storybook apps I've had the pleasure of reviewing, really enjoyed it.

The book is a short retelling of the story from Cars 2, with simple animation, and dialogue featuring the original cast.
Be sure to click on the little glare spots that pop up for surprises.

At any time, you can access the menu by clicking on the Mickey reading a book icon at the bottom of the page.

There are several coloring pages.

Puzzles.

And 2 games:
Tokyo Lights, which is essentially "Simon".

And Mater's Tire Toss, which I actually got addicted to.

The storybook itself isn't as dynamic as some of the more recent offerings, such as the Monsters University Stroybook Deluxe App I reviewed a couple of days ago, but the activities are more varied and engaging, and at $4.99, it's a good bargain!

I'd like to thank Disney Publishing for providing Disney Musings with this app for review.

The Music of Cars Land CD

Direct from Cars Land at Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort. My wife and I loved the atmosphere, and we loved the music. So, it was a no-brainer to pick up "The Music of Cars Land" CD.

Remove the CD for a picture of the Cozy Cone.

The music is broken down into areas and attractions around the park.

Downtown Radiator Springs:
"Route 66", by Chuck Berry, "Welcome to Radiator Springs" and "Radiator Rock" by Joe Louis Walker

Luigi's:
"Mambo Italiano" by Rosemary Clooney. Luigi's is a flying tire ride!

Flo's V8 Cafe:
"Stop in the Name of Love" by The Supremes. Flo's was our go to spot for many meals while at the Disneyland Resort.

Stanley's Oasis
Riding in My Car (Car Car Song) by Woody Guthrie. Stanley's Oasis can be found in the queue for Radiator Springs Racers.

Ramone's House of Body Art:
"Low Rider (Espanol Fantasma Mix)" by War. Ramone's is a shop next to the entrance/ exit of  Radiator Springs Racers.

The primary reason we bought this CD was the songs by Larry the Cable Guy as Tow Mater, for the ride Mater's Junkyard Jamboree. The songs are: "Junkyard Jamboree, Big Bull Dozer, Tow Mater (The One You Want to Call), 'Mater's Square Dance"and "Let's Go Driving."

Finally we have a complete ride through of Radiator Springs Racers, one of the best themed rides ever by Disney. The additional song "Behind the Clouds" by Brad Paisely can be heard briefly in the ride as you cruise through downtown Radiator Springs.

This is a great souvenir, and I suggest picking it up if you are ever in Radiator Springs!
