Epcot Center Commemorative Pre-Opening Guides

Before going to Walt Disney World for the first time in 1992, the place I was most excited to visit, even more than the Magic Kingdom, was Epcot. Upon arrival, the first attraction I went on was Spaceship Earth. The park fascinated me and upon my return home, I hunted down as much as I could; including the brochures featured here, a more extensive guide that I've featured in the past, and 2 very in depth books.

These 2 guides are among my favorite collectibles.




This pamphlet from 1981 is all concept paintings and a description of the coming attractions for Future World and World Showcase. The artwork for Epcot is absolutely beautiful.



This Commemorative Pre-Opening Guide to Epcot Center, from 1982 has mostly construction photos with a few concept paintings from the pamphlet mixed in.

Vintage Ticket Book or Who Mourns the E Ticket?

And we’re back to 1978

Here are some surviving ticket books and a parking stub. As you notice there are no ‘E’ tickets left in either book. Those were always the first ones used up.

I seem to remember the day we were there was a very hot day in July (is there any other kind of day in Florida in July!) and we stood in line for Splash Mountain for at least an hour. Wow, parking was 50 cents for the whole day! Well, 48 cents and 2 pennies in tax. I even wrote on the back which lot and row we were in.

We were supposed drive home to my friends house in Rockledge, FL at a ‘decent time’ but of course we were teenage girls and had to stay to see what happened after dark at the Magic Kingdom!

Epcot's International Flower and Garden Button and Brochures

The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival started in 1993.

Throughout the park you’ll find many topiary displays, themed to a particular subject, as well as lush gardens. Guests can meet gardening experts and learn new ideas they can use in their own home gardens.

I was able to attend in 1994 and 1995, and have brochures from both festivals.

It’s amazing to see how the festival has grown. The topiarys look rudimentary compared to what you’ll see today.

This years Flower and Garden Festival started March 5th, and runs through May 18th.
