The Disney Exchange- Episode 11 Show Notes: Things To Do On Walt Disney World Property, Outside The Parks

-Main Topic- Things to Do On Walt Disney World Property, Outside the Parks
-The Disney Exchange is Lisa Green, David Hodges, and me, Nicholas Maglio
-I'd like to apologize to one of our biggest fans, allegedly, the lovely and talented Fran Drescher.
-Lisa tells of her unplanned extended vacation as well as that souvenir that keeps on giving.
-I start us off on our main topic, and go right to Fort Wilderness, where I have trouble just picking one awesome thing to do, as there are many, but settle on riding on a large mammal, also known as horseback riding.
And even though I am supposed to limit it to one thing, I sneak in carriage rides as well.
-Lisa keeps us at Fort Wilderness, and describes the 2 hour Wilderness Back Trail Adventure Segway Tour she took on her recent trip.

We show off our math skills.
-Dave cools things down by taking us for a swim and relaxation in the resort's pools, his favorite being at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jambo House. We discuss other pools and the intricacies of pool hopping.

-I decide it's time to head to Downtown Disney to bowl and have a bite to eat at Splitsville.

-Lisa follows me to Downtown Disney, and goes shopping while I bowl. David and Lisa discuss recent acquisitions and the shops they most enjoy.
-Dave talks about the free Disney Boardwalk tour, and I mention The Wilderness Lodge's free tour.
-The Wheel of Distiny topic this week: Our favorite movie released prior to the year of our birth. Yes, they made talkies before Lisa and I were born.
-Dave : Escape From Witch Mountain
-Me: Bambi. This causes an argument. Yes. An argument about BAMBI.
-Lisa: Mary Poppins

Name That Disney Bear
Can you name the characters on this Totem Pole, which sits outside the Mercantile store at Disney's Wilderness Lodge?
Got Mickey, Goofy and Donald pretty easily, I would imagine, but who's that bear?
While staying at the Wilderness Lodge a couple of years ago, we took the excellent ranger guided tour. When the ranger asked who in our group of about 12 could name the characters, only my wife and I knew this bear is Humphrey.
I have a few Humphrey collectibles. One is a 12" resin reproduction of the Totem Pole above which I purchased at the Wilderness Lodge Mercantile for $20.95.
Humphrey first appeared in a Goofy short from 1950, titled "Hold That Pose", though he is bearly (pun intended) recognizable as the bear he would develop into. This short can be found on the "Walt Disney Treasures: The Complete Goofy" DVD set.
Next he went on to appear in four classic Donald Duck cartoons: "Rugged Bear", 1953, "Grin and Bear it", 1954, "Bearly Asleep", and "Beezy Bear", both from 1955. All 4 of these can be found on "Walt Disney Treasures: The Chronological Donald: Volume 4" DVD set.
He even starred in his own cartoons in 1955,"Hooked Bear", and one of my favorite short cartoons of all time, "In the Bag" both of which can be found on the "Walt Disney Treasures: Disney Rarities: Celebrated Shorts: 1920s-1960s" set.

My Second Favorite Hidden Mickey
Hidden in the rafters of the lobby in the Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort is this little Mickey. He's adorable, and my second favorite hidden Mickey ever. I might even say he's my favorite hidden Mickey, since my other top contender is really not a true hidden Mickey.
