The Book of Mouse, By Jim Korkis – A Book Review

When I heard that there was the possibility I could get to review Jim Korkis' new book "The Book of Mouse, A Celebration of Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse" by Theme Park Press, I was thrilled. Then the waiting began. Each night after work I would run to the mailbox to see if the package came.

Then one cold and rainy Saturday, our doorbell rang and lo, our mailman had a package in his hands, "Here you go!" Hurray! Jim's book had arrived from the publishers.

As I leafed through it I got more and more excited. The information is categorized well and in fun read-out-loud to the family paragraphs and bullets. This is a great book for the whole family.

The warmth and humor in Jim's writing is always something to look forward to, and of course, Mickey Mouse and Disney, his specialty! That makes for a win win in this book!

This is the definitive book of Mickey Mouse, as written by a Disney Historian of the first caliber.

If you're looking for the perfect gift for the Disney lover on your list, I would put this book right at the top! You will not go wrong with this one!

Jim Korkis Discusses Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean

Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean is my favorite ride at that park. Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Walt Disney World version, which is also wonderful, and a must do each trip, but the Disneyalnd version is superior in several ways.

It has a much wonderful opening, taking your boat past the Blue Bayou Restaurant, then through an entire opening sequence featuring several skeletal Pirate scenes the Walt Disney World version doesn't have.

If that wasn't enough, there is a dramatically explosive ending sequence also missing at Disney World.

When I asked Disney historian Jim Korkis what his favorite ride was, I was very happy to have him discuss some wonderful insight regarding this beloved attraction.

Interview with Disney Historian Jim Korkis - Part 2

In Part One of my interview with Jim Korkis, he discussed his book "Who's Afraid of the Song of the South? And Other Forbidden Disney Stories" and "The Revised Vault of Walt" . In Part 2 he talks about how he got started as a Disney Historian. Or, should I say, THE Disney Historian?!
As we begin, I had just asked Jim how he got started:

Interview With Disney Historian Jim Korkis - Part One

In January, while at Walt Disney World, my wife and I took a brand new tour being offered at the Boardwalk Resort. I saw a man taking notes, and thought he looked familiar. A quick Internet check confirmed that this was indeed Disney Historian Jim Korkis. In fact, Jim created the term "Disney Historian"!

I struck up a conversation with Jim, and he was very gracious when I told him I too was a writer for a blog, and asked if I might interview him. We wound up talking for over 2 hours, with about 30 minutes recorded on video.

Part One of the interview is about his newest books, "Who's Afraid of the Song of the South? And Other Forbidden Disney Stories" and the "The Revised Vault of Walt."

I can't tell you how great it was to spend time speaking with Jim, we discussed many different topics, which I will be sharing in the future.
