Disney Treasures By Funko

Back in 2015, Funko teamed up with Lucasfilm to bring the world Star Wars Smuggler's Bounty, and I jumped right on that train.

A couple of months ago I started getting emails from Funko about a new collectible subscription box. This time they were teaming up with Disney!

Disney Treasures offers a unique themed box every other month filled with 100% exclusive Disney Classic & Disney Theme Park collectibles created by Funko especially for the Disney fan, with each containing goodies such as Pop! Vinyl and other figures, pins, accessories and more (hoping tee shirts, as they asked my shirt size when I signed up).

There are 3 types of plans. Traveler is pay as you go, and $30 a month. Adventurer is the 6 month plan, and the boxes are $29. I went with the Explorer, 12 month program for $28 a box. This plan offers an anniversary gift at the end of my year.

I got my first delivery a few weeks ago, just before we went on our most recent trip to Walt Disney World, and I didn't open it up until we got back. 

The box is designed like a treasure chest.

Disney Tsum Tsum!

In recent years I have tried to buy less Disney items and make more memories. And then they came out with Tsum Tsum . . . Originally a game app for a cell phone, it became popular enough that they started to bring out tiny stuffed Tsum Tsum and they turned out to be wildly popular. Now you can get Tsum Tsum in the 3 1/2 inch small size up to a huge pillow Tsum Tsum.

They now release eight new Tsum Tsum every first and sometimes 3rd Tuesday of the month at Disney Stores. I have gone to the store on Tsum Tsum Tuesday and they have a line-up for these cuties. When a new series is really popular, the racks of Tsum Tsum are kept behind the tills, they limit the number of Tsum you can buy, 2 each of the 8 new releases.

My original purchase of Tsum Tsum was at the Once Upon a Toy store at Disney Springs. I thought they would be a great souvenir to bring home for friends so I bought 3 of them.

I live in Vancouver and until recently, it was a trek for me to get to a Disney Store. Then they opened one right in downtown Vancouver, making it much easier to get my Disney fix.

These are the Tsum Tsum I have at home now. See what I mean by cute! First up is Lotso Huggins Bear (sadly he doesn't smell like strawberries) and then we have Bashful from Snow White, I got him free using my Disney Movie Reward points, then Tigger and finally Tinker Bell.

That was going to be it, just a few. And then they came out with this set for Christmas! The whole gang, all dressed up and ready to be Merry.

Recently I went into Toys R Us . . . bad mistake. Turns out you can get small hard plastic Tsum Tsum in sets of 9 (one in each set is a mystery Tsum Tsum).  I purchased 2 sets of these and they now look at me from the base of my computer. The mystery in the first set was Happy from Snow White and in the second set, I was thrilled to find the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland. Second from the left in the middle row!

To show the level of detail in these small Tsum Tsum . . . here is the Red Queen from the back. Cuteness level = off the chart!

They have released Marvel and Pixar Tsum Tsum as well, something for every collector!

Flea Market Find: Vintage Disney Christmas Stocking

We bought this vintage Disney Christmas stocking at our local flea market, Columbus, for $7.

It measures about 9 1/2 x 15 inches and is in really great shape considering it is likely from the 1960s.

I'm pretty confident saying it's from the mid 60's based on the fact that one side features Merlin from The Sword in the Stone, which was released on Christmas day in 1963. The next animated feature wasn't released until The Jungle Book in 1967!

There is a lot happening on this stocking! In fact, there is something I didn't notice until taking photos. Is this Peter Pan below? It's pretty vague.

Donald is painting candy canes.

I'm not exactly sure what Dwarf this is, but I'm thinking Happy as he has a big smile on his face as he paints a train.

Clearly this is Dopey, though I am not sure of who put him in charge of the lights.

Is this Huey, Dewey, or Louie? On Duck Tales, Dewey wears blue, so we'll go with that.

This is Thumper?

This is certainly Bambi being decorated by Mickey and Alice.

They look like they are all well on their way to finishing decorating for Christmas. How about you?

A Disney Day at the Flea Market

On Episode 18 of The Disney Exchange about Disney souvenirs, we briefly discuss my collection. Many pieces have been Flea Market Finds.

I thought I'd take photos of what could be found at the Columbus Flea Market in New Jersey on a random, lovely Spring morning, and to be completely honest, this was not the best assortment we've seen, but it is always a crap shoot when it comes to flea marketing. Not that I walked away empty handed; more on that later.
There is a wide variety, from the expensive to the down right cheap. Let's start at the very first table we encountered. The owner of this stuffed Mickey from Macys, which comes with an alarm clock, wanted $25, a bit steep in my opinion. If I was very interested, I could have perhaps haggled him down to $20.



We move on to another table, where we find this Winnie the Pooh collectible and this Walt Disney World Pen set, which sits on top of a pad. The owner wanted $20 for Pooh and $10 for the pen set.





Some people mark their items clearly, so you don't need to ask a price. I prefer this. I often wonder if I approach someone selling a Disney item and I am wearing a piece of Disney clothing, if they don't quote me a higher price.

If this Minnie had a matching Mickey, I most likely would have picked up the pair.



Every week, this booth is set up featuring a wide assortment of cookie jars and salt and pepper shaker sets, primarily Disney, but also featuring other franchises. I have never bought anything from here however, due to the fact we don't collect salt and pepper shakers, and simply don't have the space for cookie jars, but that doesn't mean we aren't tempted every week!







You can also find very reasonably priced items of all sorts, from mugs, collectible figures, cast iron, even clothing, everywhere you look!









I was on the fence on a few items on this particular morning, including this mug for $4...



...and this Snow White stamp set.





I did purchase something from this table.



I bought this pin set, for $35, because every pin on it, and the image featured on the packaging makes me smile! I intend on framing this as is!



I actually spent more than I normally would, but it was originally $44, and I figured, if I saw it at the park, even with a %10 discount, I'm saving money. Plus the guy selling it was so darn nice!

Memento Mori in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

A new shop, (or is it an old residence?) mysteriously appeared a few months ago in the Magic Kingdom's Liberty Square, at the exit of the Haunted Mansion.

Memento Mori was the home of Madame Leota, until her disappearance, and, I suppose, partial reappearance within the Haunted Mansion. Her portrait can be found inside.

According to Webster's Online Dictionary, Memento Mori means "a reminder of mortality." Google  provides a definition that is even more appropriate; "an object serving as a warning or reminder of death," and the Memento Mori shop is happy to provide such reminders of the iconic ride it is located beside.

There are a lot of items in here that appeals to fans of the HM, and you can go a little nuts. Indeed, if  we had more space in the house, I'd have walked out with much more than just the one item I did leave with. I could easily see having a room dedicated to some of this fanatasmagorical merchandise.

Think of a merchandise category, and there is a really good chance you'll find it here. Clothes? Obviously. Shoes? Check. Make-up? Wait, what? Yes. Haunted Mansion Make-up kits from the Beautifully Disney line!

Want to redo the kitchen in Early American spooky? Yes, you can do that also. Dish Towel sets are $19.95, coaster sets are $24.95.

We were very interested in the dinner plates, but had breakage concerns. The round plates are $26.95.

There is a lot to see here, and you may stay so long you actually build up an appetite. If you are hungry for Haunted Mansion food, popcorn and cotton candy are readily available.

Want chocolate? They have chocolate in the form of bats, for $4.95.

There are many t-shirts and even collared shirts to choose from.

 The Gracey Family Reunion shirt is $24.95.

This shirt of the Ghost Host himself, which is $ 36.95, changes, transforming into a skeleton...

Looking for the perfect Haunted accessory to go with your clothes?

There are action figures for boys, and even something for your little girl. Perhaps she'll like a Haunted Bride doll for $21.95?

Holidays aren't forgotten, as there a couple of different ornament sets to be had.

There are higher end collectibles and home decor items, such as the Haunted Mansion wall hanging for $100.

This replica of the Haunted Mansion sign can hang in your home for $95.

Plenty of less expensive souvenirs can be found as well, such as key chains, notepad and magnet sets, and antenna toppers, which are 2 for $8.

You can even take home an 8x10 ghostly image of yourself or a loved one for $19.95 plus tax.

I had read online that there is a limit to how many items a guest could purchase at one time, and indeed there was this sign hanging under one of the displays:

When I asked a Cast Member why guests would be limited to 6 items, unless otherwise specified, I was told it was because people would buy items in bulk, and sell them on eBay!

We did buy one item, the throw pictured below, for $59.95.

As you can see, Disney has found yet another ingenious way to separate me and my money.
"Hurry back, hurry back," indeed!
