Disney Vinylmations Jingle Smells Series 2 and 3

By: Nick

In 2011, Disney released a set of scented Vinylmations, called Jingle Smells, that could double as ornaments. They were nice, but, as they didn't feature any character, I only bought one initially, marshmallow, but did wind up with chocolate when I found it at the local flea market.

The following year, Disney released Jingle Smells Series 2, and I couldn't resist any of them!

To be honest, none of them smell very much like what they say they are supposed to smell like.
They all smell like vinyl, with one exception, which we'll get to down the line.
But the smell isn't the reason I bought these. It's because they are awesome!

These come with a ribbon for hanging.

Mickey "smells" like Gingerbread.

Goofy is peppermint. He is perpetually in this pose, as these Vinylmations are non-articulated.

Donald is chocolate. Looks like he's had a bit of a spill there.

He sports a pair of novelty reindeer antlers and a scarf.

Last, but not least, we have Minnie, who smells like pie. She actually has the best scent, which is reminiscent of the smell of the pie that is wafted into the theater in the  Mickey's PhilharMagic attraction at Walt Disney World!

Last year's Jingle Smells Series has Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald as Nutcrackers.

Mickey smells like chocolate, and Minnie is strawberry shortcake scented.

I bought Goofy and Donald.

Donald smells like a sugar cookie, Goofy like Peppermint.

Gem Mint 10 Vinylmation Main Street Trolley Set

By: Nick

I don’t often leave a collectible in it’s box, and never do it because I intend to resell it at an inflated price later. I keep them boxed because I feel, in some instances, they are more nicely displayed in their packaging. Such is the case with this Vinylmation set I picked up at D Street in Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World.

This is The Main Street Trolley set from either late 2011 or early 2012.

.

Limited to 2500, from the Park 7 series.

.

Retail price, $26.95.

.

If you look to the right of the box side, you’ll see the iconic image of Walt Disney showing the future location of Disney World.

I have more collectibles, “Gem Mint 10″ in it’s original box, so look for more of those to be showcased in the future.

Limited Edition Viking Vinylmation : Story Behind the Photo

By Nick

Why am I posing with a family of strangers holding this Vinylmation?
This is a funny but true story, and I have pictures to prove it!

While in Walt Disney World in 2012, we stopped in to The Puffin's Roost, the shop at Epcot's Norway Pavilion.
They had a really great Viking Hat, with Mickey ears.

Making this an even cooler collectible, was the exclusive viking Vinylmation figure that came with it.

His shield on his back. There is a tiny little scuff mark on his helmet, no doubt from when he was in some battle!

AND it's limited to 1000 pieces. 2 artists names on this figure, Doug Strayer and Maria Clapsis.

AND, it was marked down, from, if memory serves from $60 to $20!

While considering this purchase, another family was also looking at the hat, but they just wanted the hat, they had no interest in the Vinylmation Viking. In fact, they had no clue as to what Vinylmation was.
Shocking, I know.

While the hat was funny, the truth was, neither my wife or I would wear it often enough to justify just the effort of getting it home.

But I wanted the Viking.
As we were contemplating our next move, the family decided they would buy the hat. SO I offered to split the cost, if they were willing to part with the Vinyl Viking. They were!
Making the deal even better was the fact that as a Premium Annual Passholder, I got a 20% discount. So we each got what we wanted for a fraction of the original price!

A happy ending for all at the Happiest Place on Earth!

Disney Vinylmation Spooky Series 2

Last week I shared Spooky Series 1 which featured Mickey Mouse as Frankenstein, and Minnie as the Bride of Frankenstein.
Disney Vinylmation Spooky Series 2, released in 2012, ratchets up the horror level a few notches!

Pluto as a Werewolf.

Goofy is a very creepy Dracula! Dig those funky contact lenses!

And what is with the gold nail polish?! -shiver-

As with Spooky Series 1, I got these on sale after Halloween, which makes me wonder if they will release a 3rd series. Every collection needs a Creature From the Black Lagoon Donald Duck, after all!

Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox D23 Vinylmations

When I was a kid in the 1970's my favorite show was, not surprisingly, The Wonderful World of Disney. I have distinct memories of seeing certain cartoons, such as "In the Bag", featuring Humphrey the Bear, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" from "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad", "Casey at the Bat", from "Make Mine Music", and "Paul Bunyan" an animated short released in 1958.
I have a few Humphrey the Bear items in my collection, but had nothing from the other 3 cartoons listed above, until just recently.
I won this 2013 D23 Expo Paul Bunyan Vinylmation set on Ebay.

It's a limited edition of 1000. It originally sold for $29.99, so I was pretty happy to get it for $33, including shipping!

Paul Bunyan is discovered washed ashore a small Maine town after a storm. Paul is adopted and raised by the town. It takes a village to raise the boy because he is a giant. Paul grows, and discovers his true calling as a lumberjack. As he grows, the town grows with him, and he decides to move west to wide open spaces. Wide open spaces that he himself clears with his prodigious strength and ax.

The only complaint I have about this figure is that Paul should have a double-blade axe,
which is a prominent plot point.

On his travels he encounters and saves the life of a Big Blue Ox, and Paul names him Babe.

As they cross the country, they create many of the topographical features we enjoy today, such as the Grand Teton Mountain Range and Pikes Peak.
Things are going wonderfully, with Paul the king of lumberjacks, until he comes upon a slick salesman and his steam saw and steam locomotive.
I won't give away the ending, but Paul and Babe stick together through thick and thin, eventually winding up in Alaska.

It is a terrific cartoon, with a wonderful song that narrates and drives the story, and very stylized animation. Paul is voiced by Thurl Ravencroft, who is most well known as the voice of Tony the Tiger. Thurl did many voices for Disney throughout his long carrier, for both animated productions and theme park attractions.
Paul Bunyan can be found on Disney's American Legends DVD set, the Walt Disney Treasures, Disney Rarities DVD set, and on YouTube.
